Tuesday’s Treats #172

Angelo’s Family Pizza & Pasta

Location: Waynesville, NC

Ok, first off, DO NOT go here if you’re dieting or trying to watch your calories, because it will only be a terrible, uphill battle! One of which you will fail miserably, unless you have the willpower of a stubborn mule! 😂 … Seriously, going to a restaurant like this and not trying to eat all the yummy offerings would just be silly.

The rolls alone must have 500 calories each! Oh, but they are simply scrumptious! Oh. My. Goodness. With all that buttery, garlicky, almost yeast roll-eske deliciousness, it took all I had in me to only eat one! I am still having a craving for them!

The pizza is so good as well! Our son got his own personal pepperoni, and we ordered the medium supreme. Oh. My. Goodness. It was so good! The pizza was so big, we thought the two of us could not finish… Shamelessly, we devoured every piece! 😂 (Our friends did get a piece to try!) Our friends ordered the broccoli, bacon and cheese pizza and the meat lovers, in personal sizes, and they loved each of theirs.

Honestly, the staff needs a refresh course in hospitality and serving “etiquette,” as they were just crowded around the front, talking, when we came in, and it took a little bit longer than necessary for them to finally come over. Yet, once we moved to the back room, the server we had and the atmosphere was great! We will definitely be back when we’re in the area!

Tuesday’s Treats #171

Bourbon Barrel Beef & Ale

Location: Waynesville, NC

This restaurant isn’t big in size, but what they don’t have in size, they definitely have in taste! The large room consists of four booths, the bar seating, a handful of tables and chairs and an open meeting type room with a long section of tables and chairs (put together to form one long).

When we first sat down, we were a bit disappointed, because the last time my husband was here, he ate from the dinner menu, and there was a much bigger list from which to choose. He had told us about sever different entrees he had had, and we were expecting to enjoy some of that fare. So, when the waitress informed us we couldn’t order from the menu until after 5:00, we almost revolted. Lol.

We decided to make the best of it and began our orders. My husband got the Paw’s Old Fashioned Burger. Our son got the chicken fingers and fries. Our friends ordered the 1/2 BBQ Sammy and soup, Paw’s Old Fashioned Burger, and I ordered the BLGT: bacon, lettuce, & fried green tomato sandwich.

Oh. My. Word. Everything was absolutely delicious. The burgers were outstanding. My friend really liked the BBQ pork sandwich. She said the meat was tasty; although, she said she would have liked a little more slaw and sauce on it. She said the beef stew was amazing! The fries are like potato wedges, which I love; so, I stole some from my son. Lol. His chicken was fresh, cut slices (like you’d serve on a salad) with this amazing batter served atop the potato wedges. Yum!

We all decided the BLGT took the prize. It was absolutely amazing! This is not your regular BLT! The Italian panini is paired with a ton of nicely (not too much, but just enough) battered fried green tomato, applewood bacon with lettuce and a black pepper mayo. There must have been four green tomatoes…I had one on each half, ate one and shared one! I had actually asked for the mayo on the side, but they left it on, and honestly, I was skeptical when the plate came, but it was so very good!!

We look forward to being back in the area to eat here again!

Tuesday’s Treats #170

The Falls Landing

Location: Brevard, NC

This is a great place for lunch, and it seems quite packed most of the time, but if you enjoy certain seating arrangements in a restaurant (like a corner, wall or booth setting), I’d definitely arrive early. This is a rather small restaurant, and the seating is pretty limited. There are two cool window tables, three booths around the bar area, three tables on the other side of this granite wall, and then, the rest of the tables and chairs a pretty much like cafe seating. It’s a nice atmosphere; however, I’m not sure I’d come for a romantic dinner or anything like that, but then, we didn’t come at night. It could be different.

Even though, we came actually looking for a steak, the food was tasty. They don’t have steaks on the lunch menu, and they don’t allow you to order from the dinner menu. So, we perused the lunch menu and chose from it.

My husband ordered the salmon BLT; our son ordered the beef tip sandwich without the bread, and I had the chicken club. My husband’s sandwich and mine was delicious. As sides, my husband got fries, and I got a side salad. Our son didn’t really like his, and I think it was mainly due to the fact the steak wasn’t really seasoned. I suppose, because it was made for the sandwich, which was to have pepper jack, onions, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Regardless, would have been nice to have it a bit seasoned.

The desserts were incredible! I do have to say, the key lime was lacking a bit in the crust, a little too thin to my liking, but the pie itself was tasty and tart. The molten lava cake was a big hit with our son. However, the derby pie absolutely stole the show!! Oh. My. Goodness. I could have eaten a whole piece of that myself! We will probably go back just for the desserts!

Tuesday’s Treats #168

*My apologies to anyone who reads Tuesday’s Treats, and you’ve wondered where they’ve been! They’re back online, and, hopefully, here to stay for awhile!😉*

Marco’s Trattoria

Location: Brevard, NC

We dropped by here after a long day of traveling, and we had plans to simply feed our teenage son and get a “little bite of something.” Well, a bread basket, two soups, salad, cheese pizza (for son), and an entree of baked halibut later, we left stuffed!! 😂 Everything was delicious, and we will definitely be back!

The italian bread basket is served with an olive oil/herb mix that is incredible. The tomato basil soup and crab bisque was amazing, and the halibut was tasty. We ordered both soups, because we wanted to taste each. I think we both enjoyed the tomato basil a bit more than the crab, but each one was unique and delicious.

The baked halibut had a lemon garlic sauce and topped with crab meat. Halibut is one of my favorite fish, and you can’t find it all the time; thus, the reason we splurged. Honestly, I’m not sure I’d order it again. It was definitely tasty, but we both decided we like grilled or blackened halibut best. The salad was also tasty, as was the pizza.

They do make the pizzas with King Arthur’s non-bleached, non-bromated flour; so, that made me very happy. (It’s better for you… if you can consider pizza “healthy.”😂) If you’ve not had this type, it’s makes the crust a tad bit sweeter and more filling than regular pizza dough, and the ingredients on top were delicious! They have several “pre-made” types, and they have a build-your-own choice with a plethora of toppings.

The atmosphere is nice, and there are tables and chairs, as well as, a few booths and outdoor seating. We are here on a Monday night, and the host asked if we had reservations. We didn’t and we’re led to a nice corner table, but when a booth opened up, we did ask if we could move there. The waitress said she’s have to see if it was reserved; so, apparently, if you want a particular seat I think the house, be sure to call ahead.

Tuesday’s Treats #167

Dreamland BBQ

Location: Montgomery, Al

Let me begin by saying, we ate here 7 years ago, and they were in a different location. Honestly, we liked the feel of the earlier location because of it’s brick, muraled walls and less “commercialized” atmosphere, more like a locally owned bbq restaurant. This location is bigger, and it just gives more of a sports bar feel.

The food is delicious; even though, we were disappointed that they no longer serve brisket. We ordered the stadium nachos, the chicken sandwich, pork sandwich, chicken bbq Baker, and chicken fingers. The sides were absolutely amazing with made from scratch fried okra, Mac and cheese and Brunswick Stew.

One of the fun things about the Montgomery location is you are right downtown, and you can take a stroll down by the Riverwalk when you’re done; so, you don’t feel quite like a piglet for eating so much yummy food! 😂

Dreamland has a ton of locations; so, if you’re looking for some good bbq, just check out the locations on their site.

Tuesday Treats #166

Tastebuds Sweet Treats & Ice Cream

Location: Pace, Fl.

If you are in the Milton/Pace/Pensacola area, this place is tasty. (See what I did there. Lol.) I have to say, I’ve been to a place in Fairhope, Al (you can find the name), and I do like it much better. However, if Fairhope is just too far to travel, and you’re dying for a creative milkshake, this place will hit the spot.

I ordered the Pecan Lovers, and although, I wasn’t crazy about the butter pecan ice cream they mix in, I absolutely loved the pecan pie tart and pecans on top! They even warmed the pie; so, it was scrumptious!! Our party ordered the Chocolate Delight, the Unicorn (with a twist) and the ‘Nana Puddin’ shakes. Each one of them were created beautifully, and each person enjoyed them.

You do get to keep your jar, too. 😉

Here’s the website to see what they offer.

**A few disclaimers: (1) this place is locally owned and operated; so, if you’ve been to Fairhope, please, know it will be similar but on a much smaller scale; (2) if you have but allergies, they are most likely not equipped to serve your needs properly (We had 2 in our party, and although, the worker tried to convince us she could do it, without guaranteeing non-cross-contamination; however, after the discussion, those in our party knew it was better to not try it, because the risk was too high.); (3) They don’t have a sink to clean the jars that you’re taking home, but you do get a bag to put it in.

Tuesday’s Treats #165

Foggy Bottom BBQ

Location: Lawrenceville, Ga

Purely by accident did we end up here, and I’m so glad we did! We were attending an event down the road, and we had just a little while before the lunch hour was over. We knew we didn’t have time for our usual restaurant eating on the square, but we thought maybe bbq would be fast, and the place looked cool from the outside. So, we decided to give it a shot. Everything was amazing!

The pics are not wonderful, and my apologies. BBQ doesn’t usually lend itself to beautiful playing, unless maybe, you’ve gotten ribs plated by a chef. Lol. What is lacked in visual appeal, they definitely make up for in taste, quality and quantity. Oh. My.

The fried pickles appetizer is perfect. There about 6 pickles in the basket, and they’ve been tossed in a flour/cornmeal batter; so, be ready for the crunch! They’re also blazing hot; so, don’t blister the top of you mouth, as I did!

The brisket signature was amazing! The Texas toast, brisket piled high, and topped with a spicy pimento cheese was delicious and so filling, I couldn’t finish it all. The sides are just as good and plentiful. I got the fried okra and Mac and cheese. Others in our party got the turkey sandwich, the pulled pork, and the chicken sandwich. I can’t remember all their sides; some had baked beans and fried, but all of it was delicious! We will definitely be back!

Here’s the website for directions and menu items.

Tuesday’s Treats #163

The Swanson

Perry, Ga.

This is a beautiful, old antebellum home renovated to a restaurant. The atmosphere and the staff are pure Southern charm! The food makes you feel as f you’ve just staled back in time to grandma’s table in the Deep South (for those who grew up there).

They bring out these tiny “biscuits” that just seem to melt in your mouth, and before you know it, you will have consumed four or five of them! We also ordered the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer…wow! Just wow! The menu is full of delicious Southern Home Cooking with dishes like Southern fried chicken, baked chicken and cornbread, chicken n’ dumplings, country fried steak, pot roast and even salmon croquettes!

I ordered just a simple veggie plate, and it was absolutely delicious with fried okra, green beans, squash casserole and creamed corn. With over 20 veggies on the menu, they have just about every veggie you can think of: lima beans, Mac and cheese, rutabagas, steamed cabbage, and even collard green soup, just to name a few! I definitely wanted a whole lot more than my stomach could’ve held! Lol.

We were so stuffed that we didn’t order dessert, but I can just imagine it is amazing! We are here about a month ago, and I’m craving it so bad, I can’t wait to go back!

Here is the website; so, you can get directions and check out the menu. Enjoy!

**my apologies for not getting pics of the meal! We were so hungry, I didn’t even think about taking the pics until we were done! 🙄🤦‍♀️😂

Tuesday’s Treats #162

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Location: Several

Specifically: Norcross, Ga.

To those who faithfully check here on Tuesdays, my sincerest apologies for not having a Tuesday’s Treat up this week! Because I often post ahead from week to week, I had (wrongly) assumed I was caught up when I saw several likes and comments in my notifications on Tuesday, and I should have actually checked the site! 🙄🤦‍♀️😑 I’m glad I realized it tonight; so, I could post a new place for you! Maybe you’ll be able to check it out this weekend. 😉

Pappadeaux’s is an amazing seafood restaurant! You’ll want to start with the delicious and Huge coconut shrimp. Yum! Then, it really just depends on what type of seafood you are in the mood for when it comes to ordering your entree.

They have shrimp and grits, jambalaya, fried shrimp, lobster, crab, oysters and even octopus, 🐙 each with a nice cajun flair. Last fall, I had halibut with hazelnuts in a creamy white wine sauce. Oh my goodness! Talk about mouthwatering good! They have fresh, “Naked” fish with grouper, red fish and mahi mahi, just to name a few, all with a choice of preparation.

The sides are just as delicious, like broccolini, spaghetti squash, butternut squash and hazelnuts, cheese Grits andouille and corn. Wow! The butternut squash with hazelnuts is crazy good!

And you know, I couldn’t leave such an amazing meal without having dessert! They will bring you a whole dessert tray with all kinds of decadents! We decided on the key lime pie and the turtle fudge brownie. Holy Moly! Talk about feeling like you’ve just died and gone to heaven! These two are A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. !! It would be hard for me to choose between the two!! Delish! If these two just don’t do it for ya, the bayou chocolate cake is out of this world as well, and a friend of mine has had their creme brûlée. She said it’s one of the best she’s ever had!

There are so many locations, that you’ll need to check their website to find one close to you. There are a ton in Texas, and there are four in Georgia alone. If you live further north, you might just have to find one while one a Southern vacation… 😉 You won’t regret it!

Tuesday’s Treats #161

Marlow’s Tavern

Location: Mall of Georgia, Buford, GA

I don’t do many reviews on “franchise” restaurants, but since this place is great, and the Mall of Georgia is a popular location to shop for those who love in the state, I thought I’d make an exception…

The pictures above display their delicious Tavern Salad, fried okra and Shrimp and Grits. Each one of these dishes is amazing! The Shrimp and Grits and fried okra is my “usual” every time we go to a Marlow’s Tavern. That’s how much I love it!

The salad has Baby Artisan, Field Greens, Granny Smith Apples, Jicama, Dried Cranberries, Spiced Toasted Seeds, Citrus Dressing, and it is so tasty! Oh, and those croutons are homemade, too! As you can see, the fried okra is not little pieces fried up. No, it’s the whole pod, or “lady finger,” as some may call it.

Honestly, the first time this was brought to me, I wasn’t so sure I was going to like it! I may be Southern, but I grew up only liking fried okra (pieces), and I didn’t want anything to do with the whole thing! (What if it was slimy on the inside?! 😜)

These are made to perfection. The batter is light but so deliciously adequate for the okra. The okra is firm and not though or slimy in the least bit. The only problem with it is I can never finish it, because they bring you a pile of them on the plate!

Now, let me tell you about the Shrimp and Grits… On the menu, Marlow’s serves the shrimp this way: White Cheddar Grit Cake, Sauteed Spinach, Roma Tomato, Shallot and Roast Tomato Beurre Blanc. This way is yummy; however, I have created a bit of my own dish, because I found that I love the grit cake by itself, as an appetizer or small plate. I love the shrimp served over their jalapeño cheese grits. Oh. My!! These just seem to send the deliciousness right over the top!!

I have friends who love this dish one way or the other, and just a couple like it both ways. I always try to tel people to try both. So, you go ahead and try the dish both ways, and then let me know which you decide to be your favorite!

We have had several of their appetizers. Our faves are the Kettle Chips, the Truffle Fries and the Firecracker Shrimp. A friend of mine absolutely loves the Black & Blue Steak Salad, and as far as other entrees, the Tavern Burger, Chicken Frisco Club and the Chicken Pappardelle Stack are all wonderful. Yet, my husband discovered the French Dip on our last visit, and I do believe, that might become his new favorite!

Now, for dessert!! This is their warm chocolate cake. It is AMAZING! Save a little room; so, you can enjoy its deliciousness!! One of my friend loves their creme brûlée, and, of course, they do have a plethora of wine and adult beverages, if that is your thing. I guess, I’ll just stick with that delicious cake!!

Marlow’s has a ton of locations. Here is their website; so, you can find the best one for you.
